A strange weather year! After virtually no major storms in the Sierra since February, a late-season storm has resulted in low temperatures and snow in the high country and has resulted in a radical decrease in the snowmelt. The chart above are the flows on the West Walker River near the town of Coleville / Walker ( "Home of the World Famous Walker Burger" ). The river should be fishable until the warm temperatures return.

I fished the W. Walker last Wed.and had it all to myself until the late-starters came over the pass on my way home. Flows around 500 cfs. Fishable. Pay attention to water velocity and temp. when searching for these fish. Avoid the weekends (or fish early...way before breakfast)to miss the crowds. Runoff starting up again as low temps have crept above freezing. Caught/released limit of RBT 3xs over (to 16") in under an hour once fish were located. Almost all stocked fish with pectoral fin clips. Only saw 1 car at Kirman trailhead. Cool temps and a little windy. Still a bit of snow on the pass, but most on W. slope. Take winter gear with you. Fish are hungry/aggressive and will hit about anything once you find them. Stanislaus river clear and fishable last week too. Check the Sierra Anglers website/Bob for local flows before you leave (unless you don't mind burning nearly 300 miles worth of gas for you Valley residents).
